The Red Venetian Art-Craft vase lamp with the straw finish starts out just like all the other red venetian ar-craft vase lamps. It gets a coat of red paint on the inside of the vase which is then fired to fuse the paint to the glass. After the process is complete and the lamp cooled the gold accent is applied by hand to the lower edge and three large toes (feet). The artistic straw design is also hand applied to the outside of the vase. Since the design is hand painted each lamp has it's very own design depending on the thoughts of the artist applying the finish.
As you can see in the above photo the straw design of each lamp can vary greatly. The straw design takes on it's own character depending on the angle of the light striking it. It can go from being rather obscure to being extremely pronounced simply from the amount and angle of the light that falls upon it.
